[18p-A304-1] Current status of the synchrotron X-ray microbeam irradiation system
Keywords:microbeam, synchrotron radiation
An X-ray microbeam irradiation system using synchrotron radiation has been developed. Synchrotron radiation has excellent characteristics of high intensity and directionality, which enables us to get X-ray beam of micrometer-size by shaping with a precise slit system. This specification that the beam-size can be changed quickly and arbitrarily by the slit might be ideal to investigate localization of the damage induction and subsequent cellular responses. For further study on the cellular response due to the cytoplasmic irradiation, we have developed a method to irradiate cytoplasm only and uniformly, by integrating a precisely designed X-ray mask into our system. This allows us to irradiate cytoplasm without irradiating nuclei by shielding X-rays.
