Keywords:heavy-ion, microbeam, target irradiation of biological material

In medical and biological field, heavy-ion radiation has been utilized for heavy-ion cancer therapy and ion-beam breeding. However, many part of mechanisms underlying the effect of heavy-ion on biological targets are not clear. Target irradiation of biological samples such as cells and tissues with heavy-ion microbeam is a useful means for analyzing the molecular mechanisms of heavy-ion irradiation effects. In QST-Takasaki, there are two heavy-ion microbeam systems, collimating microbeam and focusing microbeam systems, are installed on the vertical beam-lines of AVF-cyclotron. Using these systems, we established methods for analyzing heavy-ion radiation effects utilizing local irradiation of the various biological targets. In the presentation, we present the outline of the systems, and the result of biological research using the established methods.
