We are studying the laser machining of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) with the cylindrically-polarized, pulsed CO2 laser. Last year, we demonstrated a 20% larger drilling rate with the azimuthally polarized laser beam to the other polarization. This time, we conducted laser cutting experiments with the same laser. As a result, the radially polarized laser exhibited a 20% larger cutting rate over two polarization states, namely, azimuthally and randomly polarized laser beams.
