When photonic crystal (PhC) nanostructures are coupled to gain media, the spontaneous emission coupling factor beta approaches unity, which leads to “thresholdless” lasing. We measured second-order photon correlations of high-beta PhC nanolasers with buried quantum wells and performed numerical simulations based on a quantum mechanical laser model including the beta factor. Comparing experiments and simulations, we will discuss physics of high-beta nanolasers.
