[18p-C303-8] Quest for the birth and evolution of the universe with observations of the polarization of the cosmic microwave background (CMB)

Keywords:cosmology, cosmic inflation, CMB

The cosmic microwave background (CMB) is one of the most important themes in cosmology. Two Nobel prizes in physics have been awarded to observations of the CMB so far. Observations of the polarization of the CMB are the new frontier today. The biggest scientific objective of the CMB polarization measurements is to test the cosmic inflation hypothesis. In this talk, I will give an overview of the science of CMB polarization, introduce projects in Japan and in the world, and describe instruments for observation.
