In a system without space and time inversion symmetries, an absorption coefficient for unpolarized light depends on the propagation direction of light. This effect is known as the magneto-chiral (MCh) effects. Recently, it has been reported that the MCh effects can be gigantically enhanced in metamaterials in a microwave region. However, the giant MCh effects have not been demonstrated in an optical region. In this presentation, we theoretically and numerically show that the giant MCh effects are realized in a metamaterial in the deep ultraviolet light region.
