Photoluminescence intensity, excitation spectra and lifetimes of six-coordinate Eu(III) complex 1 with beta-diketonates are remarkably changed when phosphine oxides are coordinated with an Eu(III) ion. It was shown that trace amounts of organophosphorus compounds like dichlorvos in a solution are detectable by utilizing this phenomenon.
