Proton-driven ion introduction (PDII) was developed as a new method for intercalation. The protons (H+) generated by the electrolytic dissociation of hydrogen drive other monovalent cations along a high electric field in the solid state. By utilizing this mechanism, we demonstrated the intercalation of Ag+ ion into a layered TaS2 single crystal. Obtained Ag1/5TaS2 shows superconductivity at 1.3 K.
