Ferroelectrics show the photovoltaic effect due to the space symmetry breaking. The solar cells with ferroelectrics have a problem that the photocurrent under visible light is small. The aim of the present study is the improvement of the photoelectric conversion function of ferroelectrics under visible light exploiting the gap-state engineering with transition metals (M). Lithium niobate [LiNbO3(LN)] was chosen as a model material. Transition metal (M=Fe) doped LN thin films were prepared by solid phase diffusion with the high doping concentration.
