[19a-G204-9] Creation of excitons excited by light with a spatial mode

Atsushi Syouji1, Shingo Saito2, Otomo Akira2 (1.Yamanashi Univ., 2.NICT)

Keywords:spatial mode of light, excitons, Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) beam

When light is absorbed into matter, its degrees of freedom (i.e., energy, polarization, and phase) are transferred to the matter and conserved. Since the transition occurs at each part of the surface of the material, if the size of spatial mode of light is smaller than the coherence length of elementary excitation states, the spatial mode is also conserved. As a result, the selection rule is changed and excitons that cannot be excited by conventional optical transition can be excited.
