Germanene has unique properties such as massless Dirac fermions and tunable band gap, which are desirable for electronic devices. Although Germanene can be epitaxially grown on single crystal surface of metals such as gold (Au), aluminum, and platinum under ultra-high vacuum, the costly growth method limits practical electronic applications. Thus, a practical large scale growth of germanene is desirable. To achieve large scale germanene growth, we have studied metal-induced crystallization of segregated Ge by using Au/Ge/Si or Au/Ag/Ge/Si. Characterization of the samples have been done by tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and so on.
