[19p-D101-11] Study of Effects of Polymer End Structures on the Performance of Polymer Solar Cells using Light-induced ESR

Polymer solar cells have attracted much attention as a next-generation photovoltaic device and a lot of researches have been conducted to improve their power conversion efficiency. Although several studies have reported that the end structures of semiconducting polymers in solar cells have a great effect on the device performance, the detail study has not yet been performed from a microscopic viewpoint. In this study, we fabricated polymer solar cells using polymers with H- or Br-end structures, and investigated the charge-accumulation states in the cells during device operation and the correlation with the device performance using light-induced electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy. Under simulated solar irradiation, we observed the increase in the number of spins and the decrease in short-circuit current density and open-circuit voltage of the cells, and found that the device with Br-end polymers greatly degraded compared to that with H-end polymers under device operation.
