For the construction of a hydrogen society independent of petroleum, the development of an oxygen evolution catalyst that extracts electrons and protons from liquid water is key. In this presentation, we report the manganese oxide based oxygen evolving catalyst for the purpose of utilization in polymer type electrolyzers. In particular, based on the detection of reaction intermediates, we discuss about "how to stably catalyze water oxidation in an acidic environment without the use of precious metals".
