Nematic liquid crystals (NLCs) exhibit a large optical nonlinearity which causes a refractive index change by an electric field of strong laser light intensity. In this study, we report numerical results of LC director distribution in LC cells under the lateral electric field. The retardation of the cell is estimated as a function of the field with parameters of anchoring strength and surface tilt angle of LC.The cell structure to reduce the laser light intensity is discussed.
