[20p-F202-3] Stability Enhancement of Ion-Based Optical Clocks by Multiple Ions

Keywords:optical clock, ion trap, frequency stability

The frequency stability of single-ion clocks is limited by the number of ions used in the clocks. Multi-ion operation of the clocks is investigated in order to overcome the limitation. In a feasible study using calcium ions, frequency locking of a clock laser to the clock transition has been observed for more than hours without using a refence cavity. Stability estimation based on the study shows that frequency stability in the order of 10-14 at 1 second is feasible with the multi Ca+ ion optical clock.
