[18a-E301-1] Towards the Terawatt PV Generation

Shigeru Niki1 (1.NEDO TSC)

Keywords:solat cells, compound semiconductors

World-wide PV installation reached 500GW, becoming the important energy source. Due to the drastic cost reduction, PV became the cheapest cost of electricity in some regions globally. The further impovement in cost and reliability made possible further penetration of PV into existing mega-solar and roof-top markets, though the role of PV is not limited only in such applications. Development of PV modules with special characteristics such as super-high efficiency (>30%), light weight and/or flexible opens the door for PV penetrating into new applications such as Zero Emission Building (ZEB), mobilities, hydrogen, heat, etc.
In this symposium, we discuss new role of PV and critical problems to be solved for realizing terawatt PV society.
