[18a-N304-3] IR Laser Processing of Plastics by Quantum Cascade Laser

Many organic materials show absorption bands attributed to transitions between vibronic levels in infrared wavelength region. Resonant polymer ablation in this wavelength region has been reported to realize efficient processing. To apply such resonant irradiation for various IR bands, quantum cascade laser would be a promising laser source. It can emit IR light with specific wavelength based on its quantum-well structure. Laser processing of several plastics using this laser were examined.
