When intense electromagnetic waves are irradiated to matter, fine periodic structures of less than the wavelength are formed on its surface. This is called LIPSS and its formation mechanism has been revealed yet. We would like to observe the formation of LIPSS in high time resolution and obtain clues, but in the case of a laser, the structures are very fine and observation is difficult. On the other hand, the periodic structures made by THz waves have wide lattice spacing and are considered to be easy to observe. In order to form periodic structures by THz waves and observe its process, we developed intense THz light source.
