Electromagnetic coupling between surface plasmons and excitons within conjugated polymers is of great interest for many applications ranging from plasmon-enhanced photovoltaics, light-emitting diodes, and spasers. Here, using a computational electromagnetic approach, we answer the question of whether excitons in conjugated polymers can achieve the strong coupling regime with surface plasmons in Ag nanoparticles in a core-shell geometry. We model the optical response of the conjugated polymer shells using a summation of Lorentzian oscillators, modified by the Franck-Condon vibronic progression. We demonstrate that strong plasmon-exciton coupling can be achieved for thick conjugated polymer shells, and for large, yet reasonable oscillator strengths and high-frequency relative permittivities. We show that, within the strong coupling regime, splitting between the hybridized modes of >900 meV can be achieved, reaching >30 % of the uncoupled resonance energy.
