It is important to understand electronic structure of Polyethylene (PE) and its model oligomer, in particular the gap states such as trap states, in order to understand the practical electrical characteristics since PE and its model oligomer are one of the most basic molecular structure among organic materials. The absorption measurement and photoelectron spectroscopy for PE and its model oligomer, however, have been limited because of the large (deep ultraviolet) band gap and high insulation. In this research, we observed the gap states in detail combining the deep ultraviolet absorption spectroscopy and high sensitivity ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy.
