[18p-PB1-12] Development of magnetic separation technology for nonmagnetic micro particles using Ni micro pattern
Keywords:magnetic separation, micro channel, micro particles
It is known that as the size of an object is reduced, its physical property becomes different from that of bulk materials. Therefore, to obtain the materials composed of particles which possesses desirable properties, we must prepare the size-controlled particles. In general, since it is difficult to control the size during particle synthesis, it is necessary to separate and purify particles of different sizes by some method after synthesis. In this study, we have developed a novel magnetic separation technology that enables fine particles by size on a microtip. In this method, a microscopic ferromagnetic Ni pattern is created on the bottom of a shallow flow channel, in which the particles are magnetically separated. First, after forming a micropattern with photoresist on a Si substrate, Ni was deposited to form a fine pattern of Ni. Thereafter, the resist is removed with a resist remover, and a PDMS is coated to fill the place where the resist was present, whereby a flat substrate with a magnetic field modulation can be obtained.
