Keywords:nc-AFM, dissipation energy

We have reported that Si adatoms on Si(111)-(7×7) were observed to be stable by nc-AFM, but the mechanical energy was dissipated where the adatoms moved between their sites and the neighboring hollow sites. We also found the similar phenomena on Ge/Si(111)-(5×5), where we discussed the possibility to distinguish atomic species between Si and Ge. Here we discuss the mechanism of energy dissipation for the adatom motion as well as over the Si and Ge adatoms.
