[19a-E201-4] Possibility of magnetic levitation of water using small permanent magnets

Keywords:Magnetic Levitaion, permanent magnets, water

Magnetic levitation of materials is available for diamagnetic materials, however, the magnetic force which acts on a diamagnetic object is very week. Therefore, it has been considered that the magnetic levitation can be realized only when we use an extraordinarily strong magnet equipped in a special institute, which limits the users, experiment time, and application of the magnetic field effects. We report here that we found the possibility of obtaining the magnetic force necessary for the magnetic levitation of water simply by aligning two permanent magnets. Our approach would provide a variety of usage of permanent magnets not only for magnetic levitation but also magnetic separation, crystal growth, material processing, and so on.
