[19a-E207-5] Design and Control of Multi-Optical Properties and Mechano-Responsive Behavior of Cholesteric Liquid Crystal Elastomers
Keywords:Cholesteric liquid crystal elastomers, Photonics, Diffractive optical elements
Cholesteric liquid crystals intrinsically possess a helically twisted molecular orientation pattern, enabling to manifest unique optical properties such as reflection, refraction and diffraction. Here we proposed a new method to optically control the helical axis orientation of cholesteric liquid crystal elastomers, and evaluated an optical properties arising from one or more dimensionally controlled helical axis orientation. Furthermore, considering that a macroscopic deformation of liquid crystal elastomer is strongly couple with the change of microscopic molecular orientation of liquid crystal molecules, we investigated the mechano-responsive behavior of the resultant cholesteric liquid crystal elastomers.
