Nitrogen-vacancy center in a diamond can detect stray magnetic fields with high sensitivity and high spatial resolution via optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR), and its application to spintronics is expected. We have developed a scanning NV center magnetometer combining the diamond NV center probe with an atomic force microscope (AFM) based on a tuning fork type AFM sensor. Using the scanning NV center probe, information of the topography and the stray magnetic field from a magnetic particle embedded near the surface are observed.
