Due to the inherently high radiative nature compared to bulk material, solar cells based on well-designed quantum-well structures with high output voltage have drawn a great deal of attention to achieve Shockley-Queisser limit in recent years. In this research, using the noval design technique we proposed, by comparing the quantum well designs with the same absorption edge wavelengh as the reference bulk, we demonstrate the fundamental factors that limit the conversion efficiency of quantum well solar cells.
