Molecularly aligned liquid-crystalline polymer films enable one to develop high-performance materials in various fields. Recently, a photoalignment method has drawn much attention due to its clean and non-contact process. However, in this method, the fine control of microscopic three-dimensional molecular alignment remains a challenge. To circumvent the critical issue, we have proposed a novel method to optically control molecular alignment by photopolymerization of monomers with scanning UV light. In this study, we fabricated multidomain liquid-crystalline polymer thin films with three-dimensional alignment patterns.
