[20p-E302-8] Synthesis and optical properties of Zn(Te1-xSex) quantum dots using zinc acetate
Keywords:quantum dot, phosphor, alloy
CdSe-based quantum dots (QDs) are currently applied in backlight downconversion in liquid crystal displays because of their narrow-band emission and high quantum efficiencies. However, alternatives to CdSe-based QDs, which show green and red emission, are strongly desired to avoid cadmium toxicity. Recently, our group has shown that Zn(Te1-xSex)/ZnS core/shell QDs, which have realized green and narrow-band emission, are good candidates as Cd-free green QD-phosphors. The Zn(Te1-xSex) QDs have been synthesized by hot injection method using diethylzinc as a zinc source. However, diethylzinc reacts violently with water and easily ignites upon contact with air. It is necessary to be handled under inert atmosphere, which actually constrain large scale synthesis of Zn(Te1-xSex) QDs. In this study, we suggest the easily handled synthesis of Zn(Te1-xSex) QDs using zinc acetate as a zinc source.
