[20p-E319-8] Branching mechanism of Br and Cl formations by photodissociation of halothane
Keywords:molecular beam, branching mechanism, 2D imaging techniqu
Photodissociation dynamics of state-selected halothane molecules using hexapole-electric field were studied. The angular and speed distributions of the Br and Cl atoms formed in reaction were determined by a two-dimensional imaging technique. From the obtained results, the Br atom has a large translational energy distribution, and the anisotropy parameter shows a value close to 2. This results suggests that the Br formation occurs by direct dissociation after photoexcitation. On the other hand, it was found that the Cl atom formation shows a small fraction of translational energy distribution. This indicates that the formation of Br and Cl is via different potential surfaces.
