While high-speed optical communications are expected to play crucial roles in short-range interconnections, latency is one of the most important metric where reliable and real-time operations are demanded such as in autonomous car applications. Here we propose a principle of optical network arbitration on the basis of precision timing synchronization. We found that the latency is significantly reduced compared with the conventional CSMA/CD method.
