[21a-E204-8] Side-polished ZBLAN fiber coupler

It is impossible to produce ZBLAN fluoride fiber coupler by melt processing because of thermal indtsbility of ZBLAN fibers. Therefore we have proposed and developed a single-mode ZBLAN fiber coupler by side polishing. At present, we succeeded in side polishing. Moreover, we applied liquid with a refractive index higher than that of the core of ZBLAN fiber on the polishing surface and measured transmission light loss to confirm that the light of the core leaked from the polishing surface .
