[21a-F211-3] Mathematical reasoning and its evolutionary basis: viewed from optimal foraging theory and core knowledge
Keywords:cognitive development, optimal foraging theory, economical decision rule
Numerical cognition is not unique to human, but is found wide in many animals such as those showing the same-difference concept and the small number arithmetic. However, our understanding of the underlying computational processes and responsible neural networks yet remain premature. In the present talk, I will review recent findings on the strict economical rules that newly hatched naïve chicks in terms of optimal foraging theory as the framework. I would discuss how the arithmetic of discrete small numbers could arise from the common cognitive modules.
