[10p-S422-11] Continuous Random-Number Generator using ASE Light Source

Tatsuya Tomaru1 (1.Hitachi, R&D Group)

Keywords:spontaneous emission, random number, noise

An ASE light source is evaluated with respect to continuous random-number generation. Because the ASE light is composed of spontaneous emissions, the phase is random, and the property is used. In addition, the broad spectra of the ASE are utilized. In general, phase measurement requires a well-controlled asymmetric interferometer and a wavelength-controlled light source when a single-wavelength light is used. However, all interference conditions are equally satisfied for the ASE light because of its broad spectra. As a result, the measuring system is simplified. Randomness was evaluated using autocorrelation and the NIST SP800-22 test suite. The results showed sufficient randomness.
