Cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) with intrinsic helical molecular orientation has unique optical properties depending on the orientation patterns such as selective reflection of circularly polarized light. In this study, we employed dispersion polymerization method for synthesizing a polymer microsphere of CLC in a single-step. Simultaneously, the helical axis of molecular orientation in a resultant microsphere was ruled by the anchoring force of the interface, and thus arranged in a radial manner leading to a three dimensionally aligned CLC polymeric microsphere. We investigated the relationship between the molecular orientation patterns and the optical properties of microsphere.
