Decomposition rates of acetaldehyde gas were investigated under the combination of photocatalyst and atmospheric-pressure DC plasma. Air was circulated from the plasma generation part to the photocatalyst filter by the fan in a reaction chamber. It was found that the decomposition rate was enhanced at the time of simultaneous operation of photocatalysis reaction and plasma operation than sum of only photocatalysis reaction and only plasma operation. The enhancement is considered as follows: Long-lived oxygen active species such as ozone are generated by atmospheric-pressure DC plasma. The active species are decomposed to more active species at the photocatalyst surface under light irradiation, which oxidizes acetaldehyde gas.
