Keywords:transient electron affinity, energy relaxation time, hot electrons

Highly energetic hot electrons greatly enhance the efficiencies of solar cells and catalysis. Excited states in the conduction band are required for keeping the energy state high for a longer time.On the other hand, we have shown that the transient electron affinity can be estimated by analyzing the spectral shape near the cutoff of secondary electron spectrum. When the energy relaxation time is long, electrons stay at a high energy state and the transient electron affinity is small and we can judge the energy decay speed from the transient electron affinity. We show some experimental examples of conditions controlling the transient electron affinity.
