Recently, n-type molecular and polymer materials have been intensively studied in the area of organic photovoltaics. Here, we designed and synthesized a novel imide-based π-electron system “TzBI”, as a building unit for n-type materials, and its copolymers. When the TzBI-based polymers were used as the n-type material, the photovoltaic cells certainly showed the photovoltaic performances with power conversion efficiencies of more than 3%. In this presentation, we will report the synthesis, optical and electrochemical properties, thin film structure, and photovoltaic performances of TzBI polymers.
