Fluoride shuttle battery is a high energy density battery obtaining electromotive force from defluorination and fluorination of electrode. We have reported that the defluorination and fluorination of bismuth fluoride electrode can be achieved by using organic electrolyte. However, the reaction mechanism of the electrode is not clarified. In this presentation, we will show our recent achievements of the improvements of the battery performance from the analysis of the reaction mechanism of bismuth fluoride electrode in the organic electrolyte by using atomic force microscopy.
