[10a-Z28-8] First Principles Study of Dielectric Function of Graphene

Tomoyuki Hamada1, Takahisa Ohno1, Jun Nara1 (1.NIMS)

Keywords:graphene, dielectric function, first principles calculation

Complex dielectric function of graphene in an infrared to tera-Hz frequency region was calculated from first principles by using the density functional pseudopotential method. Calculations clarifed that the imaginary part of the dielectric function is anti-proportional to incident photon energy and that it diverges to infinity as the photon energy becomes zero. Optical absorbance of graphene was calculated from the imagniary part and was found to be about 0,02 in the frequency region.
