The rectification direction of the single-molecule diode is determined by the orientation direction of the molecule in the junction in a metal nanogap, but it was difficult to control the orientation direction and the rectification direction of the molecule in a metal nanogap. In this study, we developed a single molecule diode using tripodal triptycene. The electrical conductivity and rectification characteristics of the single-molecule diode were measured using the break junction method. The tripodal triptycene unit functioned as a molecular base, and we succeeded in controlling the molecular orientation direction and consequent rectification characteristics in the single-molecule diode.
