[8a-Z10-2] Study on Magnetic Susceptibility Anisotropy of Diamagnetic Crystals
Keywords:magnetic orientation, L-alanine, magnetic susceptibility anisotropy
Three-dimensionally oriented materials of biaxial microcrystals have three-dimensional anisotropy and can be expected as materials that exhibit high performance. By using modulated magnetic fields, three-dimensional orientation of the biaxial crystals can be fulfilled. For the preparation of three-dimensional oriented samples under modulated magnetic fields, it is desirable to optimize the applied magnetic field based on the magnetic anisotropy of the crystal. We have investigated the method of determining magnetic susceptibility anisotropy by X-ray diffraction method using paramagnetic crystals (high temperature superconductors). In this study, we applied this method to L-alanine crystal, which is diamagnetic and determined its magnetic anisotropy ratio. In addition, in order to examine the validity of this value, the magnetic susceptibility of the L-alanine crystal was determined based on the anisotropy of the molecule and compared with the experimental value.
