Keywords:thermal time constant

We have proposed a technique to precisely measure the optical path length of an optical fiber using an optical system that cross-correlates the picosecond optical pulse outputs from a gain-modulated distributed feedback (DFB) semiconductor laser, and are studying a high-resolution optical fiber temperature sensor based on this technique. In this connection, we have reported the results of thermal time constant measurements of fiber-optic strands and core wires in water. In this paper, we report on the measurement of thermal time constants of a temperature sensor in air.
