PE-BTBT-Cn, a new liquid crystalline organic semiconductor, shows specific layered herringbone (LHB) structures depending on its alkyl chain length. These structures are related to the realization of a liquid crystal phase (smectic E, SmE) in high temperature. In this study, construction of different LHB structures in thin films were controlled by blending different alkyl chain length molecules. In addition to thermal and optical properties, transistor characteristics of single crystalline thin films were investigated. Based on these measurements, conflict and correlation between realization of different LHB structures and emergence of SmE phase will be discussed.
