Micro prism array (MPA) flattens optical systems and makes liquid crystal display systems thinner for various applications such as smart phones, car navigation and flat TV. Nowadays, 3D-aerial imaging is gaining attention as digital signage, a source of amusement, and a human–machine interface for AR expression. However, it is difficult to reduce the thickness using conventional optical systems due to the large space be-tween the main body and display or light source; hence their usage is limited.
In this study, a novel method for 3D-aerial imaging with MPA on light guide is proposed, which is see-through for AR use, and the LED light source is coupled to the edge to save space. The experimental results of the fabricated device are presented herein.
