[9p-Z17-17] Large-scale convection of surrounding fluid in optical trapping
Keywords:optical trapping, convection
Understanding the dynamics of optically-trapped particles and their surrounding fluid is important not only for the stable optical trapping of nanoparticles and molecules, but also for the cluster formation of particles. In particular, because the spatial scale, for which the effect of the surrounding fluid motion is significant, can be much larger than that of the optical forces, the fluid motion is expected to enhance the cluster formation. In this study, it is shown that such large-scale fluid motion can be driven not only by a photothermal effect but also by the drag force of particles, where the particle motion is induced by the optical scattering force in the beam propagation direction.
