Keywords:future materials, diverse stable phases, coexistence of conflicting properties

This symposium has been organized by the study grop of Multinary Compound and Solar Cells and the Division of Crystal Engineering, accordint to the Strategical Proposal "Future Materials Exploring Initiative - Engineering for Diverse Stable Phases -" issued by the CRDS, JST. This proposal aims at exploring future materilals to meet with growing demand for materials, to achieve the coexistence of multiple functions and the compatibility of conflicting functions, such as achieving high strength and toughness in ultra-lightweight materials and high electrical conduction with low heat conduction in thermoelectric conversion materials. In this symposium issues on exploring new materials from diverse stable phases are discussed.
