[12p-A201-3] Growth of Yb:CaGdAl3O7 single crystals by the traveling-solvent floating zone method

CaGdAl3O7 with melilite structure was found to melt incongruently, and we accordingly attempted to grow Yb-doped crystals by the traveling solvent floating zone (TSFZ) method. Even if the liquid phase composition coexisting with CaGdAl3O7 is unknown, the double-pass TSFZ, which we have developed, enables to obtain the target phase from the initial stage of the growth and to maintain stable crystal growth.
