Perylene diimide dimer (diPDI), a promising candidate as a superior non-fullerene acceptor for an organic photovoltaic, has attracted tremendous attention due to the highly efficient charge-carrier properties as well as high solubility in common organic solvents. In this work, the regioselective bromination has been expanded into efficient preparation of highly crystalline diPDI. A solution-processed organic solar cell using the novel diPDI as an acceptor material exhibited power conversion efficiency of 4.5%.
