Single-atom contacts have been utilized as a model system for studying local heating in nanoelectronics building blocks. In this talk, I will talk about our recent work on heat dissipation in Au single-atom chains at room temperature. By using AC-approach instead of the coventional DC-approaches, we explored how heat dissipates in the quasi-ballistic system under current flow by measuring the AC voltage dependence of the contact lifetime.
