Electrochemiluminescence (ECL)-based measurement was applied for the detection of cell surface molecules to improve detection sensitivity of circulating tumor cell (CTC) diagnosis. Cup-shaped microelectode was fabricated, and cancer cells on which ruthenium (an ECL compound)-conjugated anti-EpCAM (a typical CTC marker) antibodies were reacted were trapped to inner concaves of the cups. After the application of electric voltage, expressions of EpCAMs were successfully confirmed by ECL irradiation from the cancer cells.
